September 2007 Newsletter

Dear SEA Partners,

Our African Director, Rosemary Khamati, recently returned from a trip to the site of the school construction project in Boma. Following is her account of what she saw and experienced while there. I trust you too will be encouraged by what is being accomplished in every realm of the people’s lives in Boma.

“The grass on the trail to Upper Boma has grown tall, over my head, making this normal three hour walk from Lower Boma even longer and more difficult. The chiefs are mobilizing the community to cut the grass on a Food for Work plan we have applied for through The World Food Program. This needs to be done soon so the truck can deliver the remaining supplies needed to finish the roofs of the first two classrooms.“

Prayer request #1 - Pray that the roadway will be cleared and for the heavy rains to subside so the truck can deliver the roofing materials and the two classrooms finished.

“The chiefs are very encouraged by the community’s involvement thus far and have committed to supplying the stone for the foundations of the next two classrooms. While we await the clearing of the roadway and the abatement of the rains, the energies of the construction workers are being directed toward the making of bricks. We have three new tukuls (round structures with thatched roofs) that have been built on the compound – a kitchen, storage room and one for the watchman.”

Prayer request #2 - Pray for the construction of at least two more tukuls and a concrete toilet/bathroom to accommodate the teams that will be coming to serve in the next year.

“As I walked through the villages, everyone was either pounding their grain or preparing the land for the next planting season. The corn that was planted last April has been harvested amidst much joy and celebration. How wonderful it was to see a community that has never known farming to be so excited to raise their own food. They cannot wait to get more seed and plant the next crop! They are so excited about their maize that they have named it “Rosemary”. I told them that I would have to change my name if they didn’t change this. We have applied for further seed for the farm. Chiefs are organizing the community to prepare the land for the next planting season and hope to plant an even larger portion than we did this last spring.”

Prayer request #3 - Pray for the funds and ability to provide more seed for planting and thank the Lord for what He has accomplished in providing this first ever harvest in Upper Boma.

“We have discussed with the authorities and received permission from the chiefs to cut some trees in the forest about four miles from the school compound. Our goal is to send in a carpenter to make wooden desks, tables and chairs for the school. If this becomes possible, it would mean a great savings in expenses for furnishing the classrooms.”

Prayer request #4 - Pray that we are able to send in a carpenter with the needed tools to construct our classroom furniture. Continue to pray that the kindergarten and first grade classes will be able to begin in January of 2008 with adequate supplies and trained teachers.

“And finally, our two missionaries continue door-to-door evangelism and are touching the lives of many with the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Over 175 now gather under a tree every Sunday evening for worship and to hear God’s Word. Interestingly, the last time we met with the chiefs, one of them asked that we pray before starting the meeting. This was so exciting for me because they know we are Christian and they respect us for all we are doing in that Name. God is moving in Boma at every level of the people’s lives and I want to thank each of you for your contribution to what is being done. Our goal of evangelizing while meeting the basic needs of the tribal people of Boma is bearing fruit and there is more than one harvest being gathered in this remote corner of the world.”

Prayer request #5 - Pray that God’s Kingdom will continue to gain momentum in Boma and that the foundation being laid will be strong and able to contain a great harvest of souls.

On another note, I have been informed that MAF (Missionary Aviation Fellowship) has published a magazine that features an article on SEA Partners and what we are doing in Boma. I spoke with them this morning and they have promised to give us a copy. We will scan this and put it on our website.

Thanks again and may God richly bless you for all your support,

Rosemary Khamati

Khartoum Teachers Conference
A team from the Northwest is coming together and plans on being in Khartoum the last week of November for the third teachers training conference. There will be more on this conference and the team members’ preparations in the next newsletter.

Christian School Project
We have put together a packet with an introduction letter, a flyer and a DVD entitled “Jeremiah’s Dream” for distribution to Christian schools. With this packet comes a challenge for a classroom in America to raise $250 to equip a student in the Boma School. The DVD is an 8-minute mini-documentary about a boy growing up in Boma and returning 20 years later with a dream to have a school built there. It is of excellent quality and is a challenge to students here who oftentimes take for granted all that is provided for them and their education. If you have connections with a school that would like to join us in this project, please contact Micheal’s email given below.

New Executive Director for SEA Partners
My name is Micheal Harris and I have recently accepted the position of Executive Director for operations here in the U.S. You can learn a little of my background on our website at www.sea-partners.org. I look forward to serving you and providing any information that you might need. I would be the person to contact should you have questions or want a presentation made at your church or organization, and I will be putting together teams for travel both to Khartoum and to Boma. I join the current SEA Partners team of Donnie Brake, President, Kate Middlebrook, Communication Director, the Board of Directors and of course, Rosemary Khamati our Director of Operations in Africa. Having led two teaching teams to Khartoum and having my heart stolen by the Sudanese, I am very grateful for this opportunity to partner with you and with Christ in His plan for these wonderful people.
Please keep us in your prayers, as this is a huge undertaking. We also ask for your support through a financial contribution that will allow us to continue the work God has called us to do. Please consider making an online donation or sending a check to the address below. We appreciate all the prayers and support you can give us.

Sincerely,
